frequently asked questions
Does a tattoo hurt?
It does, but probably not as much as you think, and you walk away with a great piece of art made just for you. The pain level varies on the individual, the placement on the body, and many other factors. It’s commonly described similar to the pain of a cat scratch.
Is a tattoo really permanent?
Tattoos are permanent, but the ink can fade away with time in areas that are often exposed to the sun or if not properly cared for. If you want to test one out before committing to a permanent tattoo, check out our temporary options.
Is it safe?
Any puncture to the skin carries risk of infection. Before getting a tattoo, check that it is performed in a reputable salon under sanitary conditions by a trained and licensed artist who follows proper sterilization procedures and takes other precautions such as wearing gloves, face masks, etc. A good artist should be able explain the procedure and demonstrate what will happen without making you feel like you’re asking too many questions. inq artists only use sterile, single-use, disposable needles and equipment so you can rest assured we put a premium on safety.
How does it work?
Tattoo needles inject permanent ink into the second layer of skin, the dermis. For a more in depth description, please see our infographic.

What should I consider when designing my tattoo?
Asides from the obvious —what image/text you want tattooed and where you want it done— consider: 1) What dimensions you would like 2) Is the size appropriate for the body part? 3) Will you use color? 4) Do you want it visible on an average day? 5) Will this be a standalone design or will it be incorporated with others in the future? 6) Will the design and level of detail work in this medium— i.e. tattoo ink on skin? Our artists will be happy to answer your questions.
Can I come check out the boutique?
Yes! We welcome you to come by one of our boutiques and see just how amazing the inq experience is!
How do I know my artist is reputable?
A reputable artist should be knowledgeable about the tattoo and aftercare process, have a current license visibly displayed, and be able to show you examples of past work. He or she should make you feel comfortable and should get your absolute approval before starting any work. No matter how talented, if an artist is being disrespectful, isn’t paying attention to your questions, or acts like he’s doing you a favor, it’s time to find another one.
how much does it cost?
We charge by the hour with a one hour of $165, which includes getting your approval for the final design, set-up, tattooing, and clean-up. Your final cost will depend on the total time required to complete your tattoo. A non-refundable deposit of 20% of the appointment hours blocked will be required at the time of booking. Email us to get an estimate on how long your work will take.
Can I get a tattoo over a scar/stretch mark, etc?
It depends on several factors such as the size, type, and age of the scar. If you wish to minimize or draw attention away from it, one option to consider instead is to incorporate a design around your scar.
What kind of inks do you use?
We use the highest quality inks available on the market. Our suppliers manufacture the inks under sterile conditions and lead the industry in safety and quality standards. The ink is high-performing, vegan, safety-tested and loved by artists and customers alike. The brands we love are Intenze, Fusion, Kuro Sumi, and Eternal.
